International family life in Japan
2002-2-5
Before I started writing this, I asked some of my friends about their family. According to what they said, I can just say that different family has different situation.
When I took part in a party in Fukui Medical University , I met some Chinese families which were settled in Fukui . I was so surprised that the children here have such good spoken Japanese that even when they are having a frolic or chatting they prefer to use their fluently Japanese. Sometimes they cannot express what they want to in Chinese but in Japanese. When we are having our dinner, I asked their parents, who both are Chinese, that what language you use when you talk to your child. The mother said that sometimes is Japanese and sometimes using her mother language. But the father doesn 't allow his son to speak in Japanese. I think it is pity if they cannot speak their native language and the all language environment here has influenced them so much. The father g a ve the children a glance, who be laughing and playing in Japanese.
Another couple has a 3-year old boy who just came to Japan for 3 months. They put their son into the nearby kindergarten. The little boy cannot understand what the teacher and other little boys said and he become so shy that even he meets the stranger he will hide him to the back of the parents. What the teacher often feeds back is his son often has his special idea and it make the teacher very puzzled. I think form that you can see a little differences between Chinese child and Japanese one.
